My Approach
-
My top priority is embodying the qualities that make me the type of person you would want to be your therapist. I know the strength of our therapeutic relationship can make the difference between a technique falling flat, or being a powerful tool for change. I prefer to use the following therapy techniques, because I believe they provide the right kind of structure and tools that propel meaningful, transformational conversations.
-
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
A classic for a reason. CBT is well-researched and effective for treating mental health symptoms. It helps you examine ways your beliefs and mindset impact your mood and behavior patterns, and guides you to adjust your mindset to achieve better results.
-
Person-Centered Therapy
While I am more direct and provide more feedback than many person-centered therapists, I use this approach to guide “inner-child” work - providing the validation, encouragement, interest, and non-transactional support that client’s lacked in childhood, to heal relational wounds.
-
Depth Psychology
One of the earliest therapies, with modern updates. I use depth psychology as a way to work around a tendency to intellectualize feelings and tap into and process deeper, at times subconscious, experiences.
-
Trauma-Informed Therapy
I approach sessions from a trauma lens, which means I ask the question “what happened to you?” rather than “what’s wrong with you?”. I help you understand your fight/flight/freeze/faun system and how to take back control of your body and emotions.
-
Attachment-Theory
This approach is FUNDAMENTAL to understanding why people act the way they do in relationships and how to help you break unhealthy habits and choose relationships better suited for you.
-
Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy
This is a skills-based approach and offers concrete strategies for improving distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.
